3 Of The Best Things To Do In Cologne

Cologne is known for 3 things: its stunning architecture, being the fourth-largest city in Germany, and its phenomenal Christmas Market. Even if you don’t visit this city during Christmas, you will love its atmosphere and what it offers. Here are 3 of the best things to do in the city to help you plan your time there.

  1. Visit the Old Market
  2. Walk in the district Martins-Viertel
  3. Cologne Cathedral

Visit the Old Market

In the summer, autumn and spring, the Old Market is a square filled with cafés, carnivals and lovely shops on the streets. It’s a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy the sun!

In the winter, from November 24th to January 7, the market is transformed into an amazing Christmas Market. The place is filled with little gift shops, food, hot wine and a nice ice rink. Honestly, it’s the best Christmas market I have ever stepped in. The atmosphere, the people, and the decoration are just a must to experience at least once in your life.

The address of the Old Market is Alter Markt 18, 50667 Köln.

Walk in the district Martins-Viertel

This district is filled with colorful houses. Martins-Viertel is an old district of Cologne. You are definitely going to notice, in a good way, the ages that went by in the district. I recommend walking in the streets of the district and exploring Cologne on foot. Rheingarden is a good place to eat a picnic and relax close to the river (Le Rhin).

Cologne Cathedral

This cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We all know cathedrals in Europe, no matter the country, are all unique and special. This one is no exception. The outside as well as the inside will take your breath away. An entrance fee is required for adults (6 euros – 9$ CAD) as well as for children, students and persons with special needs (3 euros – 4.5$ CAD).
