5 Of The Best Things To Do In Cairo, Egypt

Cairo is the capital of Egypt. This bustling city has a rich history that dates back thousands of years. Did you know that the longest river in Africa, The Nile River, runs through Cairo and Egypt? Anyway, as I said in previous articles about Egypt, I was shocked by the fact that there are not many activities to do in Cairo. After 3 days maximum, you will have seen everything. So, to help you plan your short time in the city, here are 5 of the best activities to do in Cairo.

  1. The Great Pyramid of Giza
  2. Egyptian Museum Cairo
  3. Khan El Khalili market
  4. Al-Azhar Park
  5. Al-Azhar Mosque

The Great Pyramid of Giza

This activity alone is the main reason to visit Egypt. The Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx are breathtaking! Did you know that these pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs during the Old Kingdom of Egypt? I don’t want to tell you too much because you need to check out my article Perfect Day Exploring Egypt’s Pyramids. Let’s just say that standing in front of these towering structures is an awesome experience!

Egyptian Museum Cairo

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo is home to a vast collection of Egyptian ancient artifacts, including the famous treasures of King Tutankhamun. You will explore exhibits that showcase ancient statues, intricate jewelry, and fascinating mummies. The entrance fee for an adult tourist is 450 EGP (20$ CAD) and 230 EGP (10$ CAD) for a student. It’s a must-visit in Cairo if you are interested in the history and culture of the country.

Khan El-Khalili market

The Khan El-Khalili market is a vibrant and colorful place! It’s one of the oldest markets in the city and an experience to blend with the local culture. You’ll find a wide variety of shops selling spices, Egyptian street food, textiles, jewelry and souvenirs. It’s a great place to practice how to bargain for the best prices! A tip I can give you is to always say half of the price they are asking, and you will agree on a price between the 2 offers. Also, don’t forget to ask different shops for their prices to give you an idea of the best deal possible.

Al-Azhar Park

Al Azhar Park is a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city. It’s the perfect place to escape the bustle of the city and enjoy some peace and serenity. The park is known for its stunning gardens, lush greenery, and sunset view of Cairo. It’s a great spot to unwind and relax from the craziness of the city. The entrance fee for tourists is 30 EGP (1.5$ CAD). There is an extra fee of 10$ (CAD) if you have a camera.

Al-Azhar Mosque

Al-Azhar Mosque is one of the oldest and most prestigious Islamic institutions in the world. It is a cultural landmark in Cairo. The mosque itself is a stunning architectural masterpiece, with intricate and beautiful details. It is free to visit. The veil is required for women. It’s definitely a must-visit if you’re interested in experiencing the peaceful atmosphere within its walls.
