7 Of The Best Things To Do In Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Tamarindo is a vibrant beach town on the Pacific coast. It is a tropical paradise filled with activities and natural beauty. It doesn’t matter if you are more of a thrill-seeker, a nature lover, or someone who only wants to enjoy the beach, because Tamarindo has something for everyone. Surfing legendary waves, exploring lush jungles, and spotting wildlife, you will have it all. Let’s talk about the 7 best things to do in Tamarindo:

  1. Surfing
  2. Wildlife spotting
  3. Snorkeling and diving
  4. Yoga and wellness
  5. Zip lining
  6. Enjoy a good restaurant
  7. Watch the sunset

Surfing

Surfing in Tamarindo is an absolute blast. The town is famous for its consistent waves and warm waters. It’s a paradise for surfers of all levels. If you didn’t bring a surfboard in your suitcase, don’t worry because there are plenty of surf shops and rental places where you can find the perfect board for your skill level.

Playa Tamarindo is the main beach for surfing. The waves are perfect for beginners, with gentle and forgiving rides. If you are just starting, you can easily find surf schools and instructors in Tamarindo. They will help you catch your first waves and give you all the important tips.

For more experienced surfers, Playa Grande and Langosta Beach offer more challenging waves.

Wildlife spotting

The region is home to a diverse array of fascinating creatures, on land and in the water. If you’re a nature lover, you’ll be thrilled by the opportunities to observe the wildlife. Remember it’s important to respect their natural habitat and keep a safe distance.

One of the most iconic creatures you might encounter is the howler monkey. These primates are known for their distinctive calls that echo through the trees.

Tamarindo is also a haven for bird enthusiasts. You might have the chance to spot colorful and exotic species like toucans, parrots, and herons.

If you’re interested in marine life, Tamarindo offers incredible opportunities for snorkeling and diving.

Snorkeling and diving

The crystal-clear waters are teeming with vibrant fish, sea turtles, and even the occasional dolphin or manta ray. Join a guided tour or rent some snorkeling gear to explore the underwater world and witness the beauty of the marine ecosystem.

Yoga and wellness

There are many yoga studios and wellness retreats where you can relax and rejuvenate. There is also a great variety of yoga styles happening in Tamarindo, going from Vinyasa (dynamic and flowing) to Hatha (gentle, slower paced), and also beach sessions. You can find wellness activities such as meditation and spa treatments.

Zip lining

That and surfing were definitely my favorite activities in Tamarindo. It’s a thrilling way to take a good look at the beautiful nature surrounding you and a fun way to get your adrenaline pumping. A popular ziplining tour would be at Pura Aventura where they offer a variety of zip lines with different lengths and heights.

Enjoy a good restaurant

I won’t lie, restaurants are expensive in Costa Rica. If you prefer saving money on that side, cooking at your Airbnb or hostel is probably a better option. But, the restaurant’s food in Tamarindo never disappointed me. It’s been a while since my Tamarindo trip so these restaurant recommendations I am giving you today are based on some reviews I found with a little research.

  • Pangas Beach Club: Beachfront restaurant that offers a beautiful setting and delicious seafood dishes.
  • Dragonfly Bar & Grill: Fusion of Asian and Latin flavors, offers a unique dining experience. From sushi to tacos, their menu has something for everyone.
  • Nogui’s Sunset Café: Romantic dinner with a stunning sunset view. They serve fresh seafood and international cuisine in a relaxed beachfront setting.
  • Patagonia Argentinian Grill & Restaurant: If you’re a meat lover, Patagonia is a must-visit. Argentinian cuisine, including mouth-watering steaks and grilled meats.

The best sunset I watched in Costa Rica was in Playa Tamarindo. As you can tell by this picture, Tamarindo is the perfect destination to look at the colorful sky. I always looked forward to the evening to relax and decompress from my day by watching the sun go down at the beach.
