  1. Explore Maya Bay
  2. Snorkel or Dive
  3. Watch a Fire Show on the Beach
  4. Hike to the Koh Phi Phi Viewpoint
  5. Go Kayaking (my favorite)
  6. Relax at Long Beach
  7. Take a Boat Tour to Phi Phi Leh

1

Explore Maya Bay

Visit the iconic beach made famous by the movie The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and bask in the stunning scenery. Surrounded by limestone cliffs, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and soft white sand, Maya Bay is truly a sight to behold. Since 2018, Maya Bay has undergone significant preservation efforts to protect the delicate ecosystem, so access is sometimes restricted. It’s good to check ahead of your visit to ensure it’s open.

How to get there: Take a boat tour from Tonsai Village pier. Boats leave regularly, so just show up early and inquire about the next ride.

Pro tip: It can get crowded, so visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon if you prefer a quieter experience.

Entry fee: 400 THB for foreigners as part of the national park entry fee.

2

Snorkel or Dive

The waters around Koh Phi Phi are teeming with vibrant marine life and colorful coral reefs, creating spectacular underwater landscapes. Whether you’re snorkeling or diving, you’ll encounter tropical fish, turtles, and stunning coral formations. If you’re new to these activities, there are guided trips available for all skill levels. Prices vary depending on the operator, but guided tours generally start at around 1200-2000 THB for snorkeling and can be higher for diving trips. Be sure to shop around before booking.

Popular spots: Shark Point and Loh Samah Bay.

Pro tip: Bring an underwater camera to capture the amazing marine life, and remember to use reef-safe sunscreen to protect the coral.

3

Watch a Fire Show on the Beach

Fire shows are a must-see on Koh Phi Phi, particularly in the evenings. While they can be found on several beaches, Ton Sai Bay is a great place to catch one. The performances are incredible, and you might even be invited to join in the fun with fire limbo or fire jump rope—just be sure to avoid participating if you’ve been drinking!

Best time: Shows generally start after sunset, around 7-8 PM.

4

Hike to the Koh Phi Phi Viewpoint

The hike to Koh Phi Phi’s viewpoint is popular for a reason. While the climb can be challenging, the panoramic views of the island’s turquoise waters and lush greenery make it well worth the effort. The path is well-marked, and it takes about 30-40 minutes to reach the top. Make sure to bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes.

How to get there: The trailhead is near Tonsai Village, and you’ll pass through several viewpoints along the way.

Entry fee: 30 THB.

Pro tip: Sunrise and sunset are the best times for photos, but sunrise offers a more peaceful experience with fewer crowds.

5

Go Kayaking

Rent a kayak from one of the many beaches on the island and set off for an adventure. Prices are typically around 150-200 THB (5 CAD) per hour, depending on how long you rent. There’s no need to follow a set route; simply paddle along the coastline, and you’ll undoubtedly stumble upon something beautiful. I started my kayak trip near Rantee Beach and ended up at Nui Beach—it was an incredible journey.

Pro tip: Bring a waterproof bag for your valuables, and if you’re feeling more adventurous, consider a full-day rental to explore hidden beaches further away.

6

Relax at Long Beach

Long Beach is the perfect spot for those seeking peace and quiet. It’s less crowded than many of the island’s other beaches, making it an ideal place to unwind and enjoy the serene surroundings. The calm waters also make it a great spot for swimming and snorkeling.

How to get there: It’s a short long-tail boat ride from Tonsai Village or about a 30-minute walk through the jungle.

Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon for the fewest crowds and best light for photos.

Take a Boat Tour to Koh Phi Phi Leh

Koh Phi Phi Leh, the smaller neighbor of Koh Phi Phi Don, is home to some of the area’s most iconic attractions, including Maya Bay, Viking Cave, and Pileh Lagoon. Most boat tours also include snorkeling stops, and prices range from 1000-2000 THB depending on the length of the trip and the stops included. Viking Cave is famous for its bird’s nest soup harvesting, and Pileh Lagoon offers one of the most picturesque spots for swimming.

Pro tip: Try to book a private or small-group tour for a more personalized experience, especially during the high season when places can get crowded.

8

Experience the Nightlife

Koh Phi Phi’s nightlife is legendary, particularly among younger travelers. The party often starts at your hostel and can go on for hours. Slinky Beach Bar and Ibiza Pool Party are at the heart of the action, with live DJs, fire shows, and plenty of fun. Most of the island’s best bars are located along the same beach, so grab a drink bucket, dip into the notorious pool at Ibiza, and explore the other hotspots—you’re guaranteed a night to remember!

Pro tip: Parties can get wild, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your belongings and drink responsibly.
