How to Get There
If you’re planning a day trip from Cork, as I did, Clonakilty is easily accessible by public transportation or car. The most convenient way to reach the town is by taking the Bus Éireann Route 237, which departs regularly from Cork City. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, covering a scenic route through the beautiful Irish countryside. A one-way ticket costs around €10 (15$ CAD), making it an affordable and comfortable option. To ensure you catch the right bus and plan your timing, it’s best to check the bus schedule in advance on the official Bus Éireann website. Click here to be redirected on their website!
Alternatively, if you prefer driving, renting a car offers the flexibility to explore the surrounding areas at your own pace. The drive from Cork to Clonakilty takes around an hour, following the N71 road that winds through picturesque landscapes and quaint villages. Parking is generally available, but it’s recommended to arrive early, especially during peak tourist seasons, to secure a convenient spot.
Once you arrive in Clonakilty, the town is small enough to explore on foot, allowing you to wander through its vibrant streets and discover its hidden gems.

Enjoy a Café at Aris Café
Located on Ashe Street, Aris Café is a great spot for a relaxing lunch. I stopped there and had the Hummus, Olives, Sun-dried Tomato Pesto with Sourdough—priced at €10 (15$ CAD)—and it was excellent. I highly recommend this café because you can choose to sit outside or upstairs, where you’ll have a charming view of the street. The atmosphere there is cozy and vibrant.

Walk Along the Water on Inchydoney Road
My friend and I took a leisurely walk along Inchydoney Road, which is a wonderful way to enjoy the sunshine and spend time together, chatting and appreciating the serene atmosphere. The benches along the road offer perfect spots to rest, take in the scenic views, and watch the waves crashing without walking too far.
Best Time to Visit: In the afternoon, when you might catch sight of local wildlife like birds and marine life, or during sunset for a beautifully serene moment.
