Siquijor is an island in the Philippines that’s often associated with mystical traditions and legends of “black magic.” But beyond its reputation, it’s a great place if you’re seeking peace, natural beauty, and outdoor activities.
It’s one of my favorite places in the country because of its atmosphere and accessibility. Since Siquijor is quite small, you can explore the entire island by renting a scooter, as the attractions are spread across different areas. Here are six of the best activities to do when visiting Siquijor:
- Cambugahay Waterfalls
- Lugnason Waterfall
- Old Enchanted Balete Tree
- Cantabon Cave
- Butterfly Sanctuary
- Relax on the Peaceful Beaches
1
Cambugahay Waterfalls
Cambugahay Falls is a stunning natural attraction, known for its turquoise waters. The falls consist of three main tiers, and it’s possible to swim in each one. Since it’s one of the main attractions on the island, I highly recommend going there in the morning before the crowds arrive. This way, you’ll be able to fully enjoy the tranquility of the waterfalls.
Price: There’s a 20 PHP (0.50$ CAD) entrance fee, and for an additional 50 PHP (1.20$ CAD), you can enjoy unlimited Tarzan swings.
Getting There: Cambugahay Falls is about a 30-minute scooter ride from San Juan. It’s well-signposted, so you won’t have trouble finding it. After parking, there’s a short walk to reach the falls.
2
Lugnason Waterfall
Lugnason Waterfall is another natural gem on the island. While it’s smaller compared to Cambugahay, it has its own charm. Like Cambugahay, there’s a small pool at the base of the falls where you can swim.
Price: Free to visit, but there’s a 10 PHP (0.25$ CAD) fee for scooter parking.
Getting There: Lugnason Waterfall is about a 20-minute ride from San Juan. The route is relatively easy to follow, and there are signs directing you to the falls.
3
Old Enchanted Balete Tree
The Old Enchanted Balete Tree is one of Siquijor’s most famous attractions. This ancient tree is believed to be over 400 years old and is massive in size. Its mystical reputation is part of the reason why Siquijor is associated with “black magic” and supernatural beliefs. Legend has it that mystical beings inhabit the tree’s surroundings.
One of the unique aspects of this attraction is the natural fish spa experience. You can dip your feet into a small pool at the base of the tree, where tiny fish nibble away dead skin—definitely a one-of-a-kind experience.
Price: Entrance is 20 PHP (0.50$ CAD).
Getting There: The tree is located about a 15-minute ride from San Juan.

4
Cantabon Cave
Cantabon Cave is known for its stunning rock formations and underground rivers. Visitors can explore its network of chambers and passages. One of the highlights of this cave is the large population of bats that reside within.
Price: The entrance fee is 20 PHP (0.50$ CAD) per person. If you’d like to have a guide, there’s an additional fee of 500 PHP (approx. 11.85$ CAD), which covers up to three people. There’s also an extra 100 PHP per additional person. The guide service includes a life vest and helmet.
What to Bring: Water shoes, headlamps, and a waterproof camera or phone pouch. If you don’t have these items, you can rent water shoes and headlamps for 50 PHP (1.20$ CAD) each at the cave entrance.
Tour Duration: The tour usually lasts about 2 hours. It’s a moderately strenuous activity, but guides will help you through the more difficult parts. Be prepared to crawl in some sections.
5
Butterfly Sanctuary
The Butterfly Sanctuary is a peaceful escape on Siquijor, home to a variety of butterfly species and vibrant flowers.
Price: Entrance is 100 PHP (2.40$ CAD) per person.
What to Expect: The sanctuary is relatively small, so a visit typically lasts about an hour. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Getting There: The sanctuary is about a 25-minute ride from San Juan.
Tip: It’s best to visit in the morning when the butterflies are most active.
6
Relax on the Peaceful Beaches
Everyone knows how beautiful the beaches are in the Philippines, and Siquijor is no exception. The island is home to several stunning beaches, although I didn’t visit them all. To be honest, I spent most of my time at Paliton Beach, and I had an amazing experience there. The water was crystal clear, the beach wasn’t too crowded, and it was the perfect spot for relaxation.
Best for Sunset: Paliton Beach is one of the best places on the island to catch a breathtaking sunset.
Activities: You can rent paddleboards or snorkeling gear directly at the beach.
Other Beaches: Salagdoong Beach and Sandugan Beach are also popular spots worth visiting.
Getting There: Paliton Beach is easily accessible from San Juan, just a 10-minute ride away.
