Hooiberg Hiking Trail
Aruba doesn’t have many sporty nature activities, and hiking options are limited, but Hooiberg stands out as the island’s second-highest peak. Offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, coastline, and even nearby islands, it’s a must-do for nature lovers. The hike consists of 587 steps, making it more of a staircase climb than a typical hike. It’s not too challenging, and you can take your time going up. The average time to reach the top is about 30 to 45 minutes, but this can vary depending on your fitness level.
Tip: Start early in the morning to avoid the heat and enjoy clearer views.

Ayo and Casibari Rock Formations
For another unique outdoor activity, visit the Ayo and Casibari Rock Formations. These natural formations offer the chance for a bit of light climbing, leading to fantastic photo opportunities. It’s a short, fun excursion that doesn’t require much effort but rewards you with beautiful panoramic views.
3
Donkey Sanctuary
The Donkey Sanctuary is a refuge for abandoned and injured donkeys on the island. Visiting the sanctuary gives you the chance to interact with the donkeys and learn their stories. Entrance is free, though donations are encouraged to support the care and wellbeing of these animals.
4
Visit the Dog Cemetery
This unique and heartwarming site is dedicated to honoring beloved canine companions. A visit to the dog cemetery is a touching experience that won’t take long but leaves a lasting impression.

Observe the Street Art of Sint Nicolaas
Sint Nicolaas is known for its vibrant and colorful street art. Each mural tells a unique story, reflecting the town’s culture and the identity of its inhabitants. Walking through the streets is a captivating experience, offering plenty of opportunities for great photos.
6
Paseo Herencia
The highlight of the Paseo Herencia complex is the nightly entertainment, including live music, cultural shows, dances, and even a carousel and train rides for kids. There’s plenty to keep you and your family entertained in the evening. Check out their website for the schedule of performances and opening hours.
7
California Lighthouse
The California Lighthouse is a beautiful, historic structure and a popular spot for tourists to visit and take photos. It’s not an activity that will take much time, but it’s definitely worth stopping by to capture the scenic views.
8
Andicuri Bay
Andicuri Bay was one of the highlights of my trip to Aruba! Located on the island’s rugged northern coast, this bay offers a dramatic landscape that’s perfect for exploration. I recommend setting aside an entire day to enjoy it fully, as there are many things to see and experience in the area. Check out my full article Spend a Perfect Day at Andicuri Bay: Your Ultimate Guide to Aruba’s Northern Coast to learn more about what you can discover here.
9
Cave Pool
Right next to the Gold Mill Ruins, the Cave Pool is a stunning natural pool and another must-see free attraction. Although it’s relatively easy to find (thanks to the wooden stairs that lead down to it), the activity is not entirely without risk. The rocks are slippery, and water shoes are recommended to avoid little crabs. This wouldn’t be a legal attraction in many other countries due to safety concerns, so proceed with caution—especially with children. However, for those who are up for the challenge, the experience is thrilling, and you can even jump safely into the water.
10
Incredible Beaches of Aruba
As a Caribbean island, Aruba is renowned for its breathtaking beaches. The best part? They’re free to visit! Whether you’re looking for a place to relax or explore, the beaches of Aruba won’t disappoint. For more details on which ones to visit, check out my full guide Top 8 Best Beaches in Aruba.
Final Thoughts
Aruba’s reputation as an expensive destination doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune to experience its beauty. From hiking trails and wildlife sanctuaries to colorful street art and natural wonders, the island offers plenty of free activities that will leave you with unforgettable memories. Whether you’re exploring the rugged coastline at Andicuri Bay or enjoying a cultural show at Paseo Herencia, you’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy Aruba without breaking the bank.
