The roads around Kuta are surprisingly well maintained, making scooter travel accessible even for visitors with limited riding experience. Traffic is light compared to Bali, and distances between attractions are short, meaning you’ll spend more time exploring than driving.

During the tour, locals invited us to:

These moments give the visit a very personal feel. It’s not just about observing culture, it’s about being welcomed into it, even if just briefly.

One of the unique aspects of Sade Village is that there is no fixed entrance fee.
Instead, the visit works on a voluntary contribution system, where visitors are encouraged to support the community through donations or by purchasing handmade crafts.

Visiting with a guide
Our guide explained that the tour also operates on a voluntary contribution basis, meaning there is no fixed price. According to him, most visitors typically tip around 100,000 IDR ($8 CAD) per person at the end of the tour. We had a fantastic experience, so we chose to give our guide 150,000 IDR ($12 CAD) as a thank-you for his time and knowledge.

Located in the lush hills of central Lombok, in Aik Berik Village, Benang Kelambu and Benang Stokel Waterfalls are often visited together and make for one of the most popular day trips from Kuta.
How Far Are the Waterfalls from Kuta Lombok?
The waterfalls are located approximately 55-60 km (34-37 miles) from Kuta Lombok.
Expect the drive to take around 1.5 to 2 hours each way, depending on traffic and road conditions.
The route is mostly paved and easy to follow.
Many visitors choose to:
- Rent a scooter for the day
- Hire a private driver
- Join an organized tour from Kuta
While renting a scooter gives you the most flexibility, there is one important thing to know before you go.
Getting to the Waterfalls: What You Should Know
Although the drive from Kuta is relatively straightforward, the final descent to the waterfall entrance is extremely steep.
Once you arrive at the parking area, the road becomes much narrower and drops sharply downhill. While experienced scooter riders may feel comfortable driving it themselves, carrying two people on one scooter can make the descent significantly more difficult.
During our visit, one of our friends actually lost control and tipped over on the way down. Thankfully, she wasn’t injured, but it was a good reminder that this section of the road deserves extra caution.
Fortunately, local guides are usually waiting near the parking area and are happy to help visitors who don’t feel comfortable riding down themselves.
One of us was able to ride down on the back of a guide’s scooter which made the descent much less stressful and felt like the safest option.
Our Tip: If you’re riding a scooter, we strongly recommend having only one person per scooter for the final descent whenever possible. The extra weight makes the steep road much harder to control.
Can You Pay a Guide to Ride You Down?
Yes. If you’re not confident riding the final section yourself, local guides are often available to help transport visitors between the parking area and the entrance on their own scooters.
Prices can vary depending on the season and availability, but offering a small tip or negotiated fee is common and well worth it if it helps you feel more comfortable.

Once you arrive at the entrance to the Benang Kelambu Waterfall area in Aik Berik Village, you’ll notice that visiting the waterfalls isn’t as simple as purchasing a single entrance ticket.
The site is home to four different waterfalls, with Benang Kelambu and Benang Stokel being the two most popular.
Visitors can choose between several tour packages depending on how much time they have and how much they want to explore.
The available packages typically include:
- Visiting the 2 main waterfalls (Benang Kelambu & Benang Stokel)
- Visiting all 4 waterfalls, including two quieter and lesser-known falls
- Options with or without a local guide (availability may vary)
Rather than charging one fixed entrance fee, prices depend on several factors, including the package you choose and the size of your group.

Located just a few minutes from Tanjung Aan Beach, this rolling green hill offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views in southern Lombok. From the top, you get a full 360-degree perspective of the coastline, turquoise bays, rugged cliffs, and endless ocean stretching toward the horizon.
What makes Bukit Merese so special is its simplicity. There are no buildings, no cafés, and no structures competing for attention, just open grass hills and one of the most beautiful natural viewpoints in Kuta Lombok.
What the Experience Feels Like
The hike up Bukit Merese is short and accessible, taking around 10-15 minutes depending on your pace. The trail is easy to follow, and as you climb higher, the view expands quickly behind you.
