A Paradise For Campers At Mattole Beach In California

A Paradise For Campers At Mattole Beach In California

If you are on a road trip on the Californian west coast, you should definitely consider stopping at the Mattole Campground.  The serenity this place has to offer is shocking, and it is definitely eye-catching.

Internet access

Depending on what your phone package is, you might have a little bit of cellular network or none at all. Make sure to download your map before going there. This can be a great opportunity to spend some quality time with loved ones, feeling refreshed and open to the present moment. Play some fun games or even read a book on the beach.

Pretty but chilly

Even if you’re in the middle of summer, don’t forget you are on the side of the Pacific Ocean, so it is really windy! If you are lying on the ground, you won’t feel the wind, and you might be able to get a little tan. The view is worth the wind, I promise you.

Explore the Lost Coast

If you are looking for an adventure, there is a Lost Coast Trailhead access. It is a 40,7km trail from Mattole to Black Sand Beach. The total hike takes an average of 8h50 minutes to complete and is moderately challenging. You can definitely explore as much as you want without necessarily completing the whole trail.

How to get there

The place is easily accessible, and the itinerary is available on Google Maps. The location is 3750 Lighthouse Rd, Petrolia, CA 95558.

Camping fees and reservation

There is a camping fee of 8 US dollars and make sure you bring cash since it’s the only way for you to pay.

There are 14 tent/trailer campsites with picnic tables, fire rings and some vault toilets that are accessible to everyone. There are no hookups.

There is no way to make a reservation, so get there early and hope to be lucky!

I have loved my experience over there and I hope you will too!
