Your day begins with visits to two iconic wineries, where you’ll learn about the region’s unique wine production methods and sample some of the finest Port wines. Stroll through century-old vineyards and take in the beauty of the terraced hillsides that make Douro wines world-renowned.

Next, relax and unwind with a 1-hour boat cruise along the calm waters of the Douro River. As you sail past the famous vineyard slopes and picturesque terraces, you’ll have plenty of time to soak in the serene beauty of the valley.

To top off the experience, indulge in a traditional Portuguese lunch featuring the best of Douro’s local cuisine. Enjoy a selection of regional specialties served at your table, offering a true taste of the area’s culinary heritage.

Travel in comfort with a vehicle that includes optional hotel pickup and drop-off, making your day seamless and stress-free. This tour is more than a journey—it’s an unforgettable opportunity to explore Douro’s history, savor its flavors, and immerse yourself in its stunning scenery.

My Personal Experience:

The Douro Valley day trip was not only unforgettable but also my very first wine tour experience—and let me tell you, it set the bar high! I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it, but if all wine tours are this fun, I’m ready to make it a tradition everywhere I travel.

Although I was traveling solo, I got lucky and met an amazing girl from Quebec, which made the whole experience even more memorable. That day, the itinerary was slightly adjusted, and we started with the serene cruise along the Douro River. The views were absolutely stunning, and the peacefulness of the moment was something I’ll never forget.

At the first winery, we took a short tour of the property before sampling two of their wines and their very own olive oil—such a treat! They explained how the wine is made, which added so much depth to the experience. Lunch followed, complete with a glass of wine that seemed to magically refill itself. The food was delicious, with options for everyone: meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes.

The second winery was all about port wine. Before this trip, I’d never even tasted red wine, let alone port wine! I was honestly shocked by its sweetness and the higher alcohol content. Learning about how each port wine is crafted made the tasting even more fascinating.

All in all, it was an incredible day that I can’t recommend enough. If you’re in Porto, this is one experience you shouldn’t miss!

From Lagos: Scenic Cruise to the Benagil & Carvoeiro Caves

  • Price of the activity: 40.00€
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • My rating: 8/10
  • Link: Click Here

Description:

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure along the Algarve coastline as you cruise to the famous Benagil and Carvoeiro caves. This 2-hour tour combines the excitement of a high-speed boat ride with the beauty of some of Portugal’s most breathtaking natural wonders.

Hop aboard a sleek, 18-seater rigid inflatable boat with comfortable padded seats and prepare for a thrilling ride. As the wind rushes through your hair, you’ll pass by charming seaside towns like Alvor, Portimão, and Carvoeiro, as well as hidden, untouched beaches that feel like a world away.

Your first stop is at the dramatic caves of Carvoeiro, where the contrast between the turquoise waters and golden sandstone cliffs will leave you in awe. Then, it’s on to the showstopper: the Algar de Benagil. Known as one of the most famous caves in the world, this iconic spot is a must-see. Snap a selfie with the stunning skylight above, where sunlight streams through the cave, creating an ethereal glow.

While this tour doesn’t include swimming or leaving the boat, it’s the perfect way to capture stunning photos and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Algarve’s coastline. Don’t forget to bring a jacket or windbreaker for the ride and some water to stay hydrated.

My Personal Experience:

When you think of Lagos—or the Algarve in general—the iconic Benagil Cave probably comes to mind. Normally, I’m the type of traveler who loves a bit of recklessness, always searching for the cheapest and most adventurous way to explore. But since I was solo traveling, I decided that renting a kayak and heading out alone might be a little too risky.

What I really loved about this tour was getting to see so many other caves, ones I probably wouldn’t have explored on my own. Learning about their history and significance along the way made the experience even more enriching.

Now, about the famous Benagil Cave itself—I have to be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed. I think it’s one of those places that gets so hyped up that your expectations end up skyrocketing. Don’t get me wrong—it’s beautiful, no doubt about it. But for me, it wasn’t the most impressive thing I saw in Lagos.

If you’re traveling with a group and up for the challenge, kayaking tours (other options on GetYourGuide) could be a fantastic option for a more hands-on adventure.

That said, I still recommend this tour. Between the stunning coastal views and the chance to discover so many incredible caves, it’s an experience worth having—even if Benagil isn’t the absolute highlight you might expect.

My Personal Experience:

When I visited Madrid, I found that the city didn’t offer as many exciting activities as other big cities I’ve explored. So, I started looking for a popular day trip to add some excitement to my stay. I ultimately chose Toledo—and it was absolutely amazing!

What made it so memorable was the perfect mix of experiences: we had plenty of free time to explore the city at our own pace, plus the tour included stops at the stunning Mirador del Valle and even a fun workshop.

If you’re in Madrid and looking for something unforgettable, this is the day trip to take!

Seville: Cathedral, Giralda & Alcazar Entry With Guided Tour

  • Price of the activity: 54.00€
  • Duration: 2.5 hours
  • My rating: 8/10
  • Link: Click Here

Description:

Dive into Seville’s fascinating history with a guided tour of two of its most iconic landmarks: the stunning Cathedral of Seville and the historic Alcazar. With skip-the-line access at both locations, you’ll spend less time waiting and more time exploring.

Begin your journey at the Cathedral of Seville, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world. Admire its breathtaking architecture and learn about its rich, cross-cultural history from your expert guide. Don’t miss the chance to climb the Giralda, the cathedral’s iconic bell tower, for incredible panoramic views of the city.

Next, visit the enchanting Alcazar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning blend of Moorish and Christian architecture. With skip-the-line entry, you’ll step straight into this palace’s tranquil courtyards filled with orange trees and myrtles. Your guide will walk you through its fascinating history, showcasing how Seville’s diverse cultures have shaped its legacy over the centuries.

My Personal Experience:

This was one of the first guided tours I’ve ever done for historical and religious sites, and it completely changed how I approach these kinds of visits. I realized just how much I’d been missing by exploring similar monuments without a guide. While visiting on your own can be cheaper, especially if you’re traveling on a tight budget, I’ve learned it’s worth taking the time to compare the cost difference between a guided and unguided experience. From now on, guided tours will definitely be on my radar.

For example, if I hadn’t had a guide when visiting the cathedral and the Giralda, I would’ve missed out on so many fascinating details and fun facts that truly enriched my experience. As a solo traveler, the guided tour also gave me a sense of being part of a group, which made the activity even more enjoyable.

The cathedral was stunning, climbing the Giralda felt like stepping back in time, and the gardens of the Alcázar—with peacocks roaming freely—left me absolutely speechless. I highly recommend taking the time to visit all three, and I genuinely believe the best way to do so is with a guided tour. It’s the perfect way to fully appreciate the rich history and beauty these places offer.
