Perfect One Day Road Trip Itinerary In Big Sur California

Perfect One Day Road Trip Itinerary In Big Sur California

Being called things such as “one of the most beautiful coastlines anywhere in the world”, Big Sur is a stop you must make if travelling in California. It is a 90-mile area of rugged and beautiful coastline, between Carmel and Simeon, that will take your breath away. There is plenty to do in Big Sur, but if you want to see a beautiful part of it, here are the three stops you should make. It is the one day itinerary I did and loved!

PS: You will be driving on Highway 1 the whole time. When we went, a section of the highway down south was closed, so we did our itinerary starting from the north, in Monterey, going all the way down to our last stop. You can of course do this itinerary the other way around if you prefer.

  1. Bixby Creek Bridge

I don’t think you need a lot of explanation with these pictures. It is stunning! Make sure you go there early though because the fog might take over the view later in the day.

2. McWay Falls

This beautiful waterfall that empties directly into the ocean is located in the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. You can reach the viewpoint directly by Highway 1 or, to get a better view in my opinion, by the small trail accessible in the parking areas of the State Park.

3. Stop anywhere on the side of the highway

There is a reason why we call it “the greatest meeting between land and water”. We could’ve stopped 20 times on the side of the road to see these beautiful rocks melting through water. Some places you can explore a little more than others, but they are everywhere.
