Top 10 Best Free Things To Do In Aruba

Top 10 Best Free Things To Do In Aruba

Aruba is known to be an expensive destination. That statement is definitely true when looking at food and accommodations, but in terms of activities, you don’t need to spend a lot to enjoy what the island has to offer. Beyond the luxury resorts and busy markets, there are many free activities to explore. I wrote separate articles telling you about all 23 nice activities to do in Aruba, the 23rd being the Arikok National Park, which by itself has 8 things to see. This article is to gather the top 10 of those that are free. Let’s check out these top free things to do to make the most of your trip to this Caribbean paradise.

  1. Hooiberg Hiking Trail (Santa Cruz)
  2. Ayo and Casibari Rock Formations (Santa Cruz)
  3. Donkey Sanctuary (Santa Cruz)
  4. Visit the dog Cemetery (Sint Nicolaas)
  5. Observe the street arts of Sint Nicolaas
  6. Paseo Herencia (Oranjestad)
  7. California Lighthouse (Oranjestad)
  8. Andicuri Bay (Oranjestad)
  9. Cave Pool (Oranjestad)
  10. Incredible beaches of Aruba

Hooiberg Hiking Trail

There are not a lot of sporty nature activities in Aruba, and definitely not a lot of hiking options. Hooiberg is Aruba’s second-highest peak, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, coastline and neighboring island.

I don’t know if I can actually consider it a hike, since it is made of steps (approximately 587). It is not a difficult activity, since you can take all the time you want to go up to the top. On average, it takes around 30 to 45 minutes to go all the way up. The time can vary a lot depending on your physical abilities.

Ayo and Casibari Rock Formations

This is another great option to do a little sport ending with a view. You can climb these rock formations with not so much effort to get beautiful pictures like this one.

Donkey Sanctuary

This sanctuary provides a refuge for abandoned and injured donkeys. It offers them a safe haven and compassionate care. By visiting, you are supporting the sanctuary’s mission, and you will also have the chance to interact with the donkeys up close, learning about their individual stories and personalities.

The entrance is actually free, but donations are more than welcome!

Visit the dog Cemetery

This unique and heartwarming site is dedicated to honoring the beloved canine companions of locals and visitors. Visiting them will be a very touching experience and won’t take you a long time.

Observe the street arts of Sint Nicolaas

The streets of Sint Nicolaas are filled with art! Each piece tells its own story by reflecting the identity of the town and its inhabitants. Walking around will be a captivating experience and also a great opportunity for picture-taking.

Paseo Herencia

The best part of this complex, in my opinion, is the entertainment happening every night! There are regular live music performances, dances and cultural shows, a carousel and kid train rides. Honestly, so many things to amuse you and your family for the evening.

Click here to check out their website to find out the opening hours and the live shows program.

California Lighthouse

This one is pretty self-explanatory. The lighthouse is beautiful, and it is fun to take pictures of it. It’s not an activity that will take you a long time.

Andicuri Bay

Andicuri Bay was a big highlight of my Aruba trip! Located on Aruba’s rugged northern coast, you have to explore its dramatic landscape. I highly suggest you reserve a whole day to enjoy it to the maximum since there are many things to enjoy.

I wrote an article for you to know everything you will see during that day! Check out Spend The Best Day At Andicuri Bay, Aruba.

Cave Pool

This beautiful natural pool is located right next to the Gold Mill Ruins! It is also free to access and a must-see. Finding it is pretty easy since the wooden stairs exceed the ground. Water shoes are highly recommended since little crabs are walking around and the rocks are really slippery.

This is not the safest activity, and it would clearly be illegal in Canada for that matter lol. I wouldn’t go there with small kids but if you consider that you and/or your family members are big enough for the activity, it will be an amazing experience. You can also safely jump in the water.

Incredible beaches of Aruba

Being a Caribbean island, Aruba is known for its incredible beaches. They are free to visit and are 100% worth a visit!

Check out my article The 8 Best Beaches Of Aruba to know which ones are the best in my opinion.
