Where To Go In Morocco

Where To Go In Morocco

Are you planning a trip to Morocco and don’t know where to start? Morocco is a pretty big country. That is why I will tell you about the different cities and where you must go! I travelled from the country’s north to the south. Everything I tell you, I have experienced and loved. Morocco is in my top 5 countries ever, I hope you will like it as much as I do!

Marrakech

You might land in Marrakech airport since it’s the second busiest in the country. Marrakech is a must do! You can’t come to Morocco without going there. It’s definitely the craziest city (in a good way) in the whole country. You won’t get bored, that’s for sure. You should spend at least 3 full days.

  • Inside the medina, you will find the famous bustling souks (spices, clothes, etc.)
  • There’s so much food and odours. It’s an experience to live at least once.
  • Beautiful buildings everywhere you walk. You need to visit the Majorelle Garden & walk inside the La Mamounia Hotel
  • For me, Marrakech is the most alive city, especially at night. It’s very hot during the day, so everyone enjoys life during the night.

Merzouga

Going into the desert was my favorite activity during my trip to Morocco. You will most likely spend 1 night or 2 in the desert depending on the tour company you choose.

  • Amazing experience: some of my best memories from all my trips around the globe.
  • You can ride a camel and see the sunrise.
  • You will eat an authentic Moroccan dinner and breakfast.
  • If you leave from Marrakech, the ride to Merzouga is incredible.

Fes/Fez

Fes has a different vibe from all the other cities. The people are so nice, and I spend most of my time in cafés and restaurants chatting with locals. You should spend at least 2 full days.

  • Wander through the medina: completely different from Marrakech.
  • Fes is the home to the oldest university in the world: The University Of Al Quaraouiyine.
  • One of the biggest activities in Fes is the Chouara Tannery. It is a building where skins are tanned. It’s the largest tannery in the city.

Chefchaouen

The famous blue city is beyond beautiful. You would think the pictures from Chefchaouen are actually from Greece, but no! Everything is blue and colourful in the streets. You should spend at least 2 full days.

  • Walking in the street is enough of a reason for you to go there.
  • The main square has so much life at night: music, dancing…
  • Hike to the Spanish Mosque for incredible views of the city, especially for the sunset.

Tangier

Honestly, not my favorite place in Morocco. The city feels a bit too commercial, but there are still some nice activities to do. You should spend at least 1 full day.

Be super careful with the water you are drinking. I got super sick in Tangier, one of the worst experiences in my life.

  • One of the closest cities to Europe. Tangier is a 45 minutes ferry ride from Spain.
  • Explore the well-preserved medina.
  • Go see the view at Cap Spartel.
  • Explore the Hercule caves.

Ksar Aït Ben Haddou

This one is different from all the other cities I just told you about. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site & a fortified village. Most likely, you will just pass in this town on your way to Merzouga, but it is definitely worth it.

  • It’s a 30 minutes ride from Ourzazate.
  • The village is known for its film studios. Some scenes from Gladiator and even Game of Thrones were filmed there.
  • There’s no electricity or running water in the village.
  • Buy some local art. Everything is made from scratch.
  • Be careful, the architecture is very fragile.
