Where To Go In Spain

Where To Go In Spain

You are planning a trip to Spain and wondering what are the best cities to visit in the country? You’re on the right page! Here, you’ll find out about the different places I’ve been to. I travelled 2 times to Spain. I am telling you about the things I have experienced and made my opinion on.

Spain is Europe’s second most visited country, with 82.7 million visitors yearly. Be aware that most people don’t speak English, so be ready to use Google Traduction. I hope you will like it as much as other people do!

  • Seville – The land of flamenco (dance).
  • Malaga – The best place for calm and relaxing days.
  • Grenada – Not much, except the Alhambra.
  • Madrid – More of a work city.
  • Barcelona – The best place for the classics such as Sagrada Família (cathedral).
  • Valencia – The birthplace of paella.

Seville

You can’t go to Spain without visiting Seville, it’s my favorite city. You should spend at least 3 days there to have the full experience.

  • The city is full of life. It gives me university vibes.
  • Plaza de Espana is a must do. It looks like Venice with the boats.
  • Great nightlife. People in Spain can party until 6am. Craaaazy!
  • Seville is the land of flamenco. People are dancing everywhere!
  • The Andalusian architecture makes this city one of the prettiest in the country.
  • I went in November, and let me tell you, it is always sunny over there.

Malaga

Malaga is a less-known city, but it’s so worth your time. You should spend at least 2 days to have the time to do every activity.

  • It’s close to the water. People were swimming in the sea in November.
  • Very cute center of town for shopping and eating tapas.
  • Stroll the promenade for the sunset & night markets.
  • One of the cleanest cities in Spain.
  • Fun fact: Picasso is from Malaga. You don’t have a choice, but to go to the Picasso Museum.

Grenada

Honestly, Grenada is my least favorite city in Spain. You only really need one full day in Grenada.

  • There’s not much to do except for the Alhambra, which is a historical palace.
  • You can also hike the Sacromonte for a nice sunset. The view is quite beautiful.
  • Some people love Grenada, but for me, it was a waste of my time. I booked too many nights, because I didn’t read enough about the city.

Madrid

Definitely was not expecting that of Madrid. When you ask someone for tips for your vacation in Spain, their first answer is always that you must go to Madrid and Barcelona, the two biggest cities. I was expecting way different. I loved my time in Madrid because I made incredible friendships, but it’s a work-city type of vibe. There’s not much to do except for the museums, the Real Jardin Botanico and the Catedral De La Almudena

  • 2 days in Madrid is enough. To help you, check out my article: Perfect Two Days Itinerary In Madrid.
  • It rains a lot during the winter.
  • It’s very hot in the summer and very touristy.
  • You can walk almost everywhere. I did everything by foot and it was great.

Barcelona

For this city, I do understand the hype. Barcelona is filled with life, parties, football lovers and great activities. I would recommend spending at least 2 days in Barcelona.

  • It’s a big city, so there are a lot of things to do such as Sagrada Família (a classic), Mercado De La Boqueria and walking on La Rambla.
  • Güell Palace is also a must do in Barcelona – Antoni Gaudí’s buildings are unlike anything in this world. Don’t miss it.
  • Great vibe and a nice nightlife to party until sunrise.

Valencia

Valencia is the birthplace of paella. This only should be the main reason for you to visit this place. + This city is a must if you love history and art. I would recommend spending at least 2 days in Valencia.

  • You need to explore the Sistine Chapel of Valencia.
  • There are some great beaches with beautiful water.
  • Flat and walkable city.
  • Cycle-friendly! Perfect to do some exercise.
